DECnet for Linux

A project to provide DECnet phase IV connectivity for Linux

File Utilities

INSTALLATION

You will need a Linux system with Eduardo's kernel patch applied and a C++ compiler (the default GNU compiler 2.7.2 upwards is fine).
Kernel patches are available for Linux 2.0.34+ and 2.1.109+

Just type 'make' and 'make install' in the directory and it will compile the programs and copy them to /usr/local/bin. It wil also install the man pages which you should read before using the programs. The main thing to remember is than that DECnet file specifications usually contain shell meta-characters so you must enclose them in single quotes.

UTILITIES

The following utilities are available, click on the link to view the man page.

dncopy Copies files between Linux and VMS systems
dntype Display the contents of files on VMS systems
dndir Display the contents of VMS directories
dndel Delete VMS files
dntask Execute a remote command procedure
dnprint Print a VMS file
dnsubmit Submit a batch job to a VMS queue

These man pages were converted from the nroff source by Michael Hamilton's vh-man2html program.

COMPATIBILITY

These utilities need the kernel patch version 0.0.4 or later.

SUPPORT

These utilities have only been tested on Intel and Alpha Linux. I don't know whether they will work on any other platform. Sorry.

Please feel free to contact me with comments/suggestions/improvements but please bear in mind that I have a single MicroVAX II at home that makes a hell of a lot of noise when it's switched on. This means I can only develop and test things when my wife is in a good mood !

If anyone has a smaller/quieter VAX (or Alpha with OpenVMS) they would like to donate to the project then please (please) contact me on the email address below.
