SAMBA FOR VMS

SAMBA for VMS is a port of Andrew Tridgell's SAMBA package. The current port is based on Samba V1.9.16p11.

18-Apr-1997 NEW VERSION! 1.9.16p11-vms1 is out!

Several people reported a serious bug in Samba for VMS V1.9.16p11-vms1. It seems, that under some circumstances a file on the server (the VMS side) will grow endlessly when reading(!) it from a client!

So far I couldn't reproduce this on my system.

So don't use this version in production systems!!!

People with lots of time :-) should install it and report under which circumstances the problem arises...

This VMS port is beta test. It currently runs on:

• VMS V6.0 and higher (VAX and Alpha)
• UCX (probably V3.2 needed at least) and MultiNet, TCPware, Pathway via UCX emulation.

Normally you will want to download the binary distribution. You don't need a compiler then. Alternatively get the source.

To compile it:

• VMS V6.0 or higher required
• DEC-C V5.0 or higher required

Work is currently done on:

• Bugfixes.
• Eleminate linking to system symbols for V6.2 and higher systems

Samba for VMS can be downloaded from the Samba mirrors (see SAMBA home page) or from my FTP Server.
