Packet capture driver installation: Windows 95/98 platform


To correctly install capture driver in Windows 95/98 operating systems you must follow these steps.

1. Open Windows 95/98 Control Panel.
2. From Windows Control Panel make a double click on Network icon. Then click on the Add button in the window where you can install new network components.
3. In the next window choose the line labeled Protocol...
4. . . . and click on Add button.

Then click on the Have Disk button and on following window choose the full path where you have uncompressed the network device driver (this folder must contain the files Vpacket.inf and Vpacket.vxd). Click on the OK button.

5. Choose the voice BPF Packet capture Driver for Win95/98 v X.XX (where X.XX is number of the version you are installing). Follow instructions displayed on your monitor (Note: the installation process may require the CD containing Windows 95).
6. In the list containing network components, you can now see a line labeled BPF Packet capture Driver for Win95/98 v X.XX.

The driver creates the binding on all the network interface installed on your computer. If some interface must not be used to capture packets you can remove the binding for that specified interface.

At this point select OK and reboot the machine

 

Troubleshooting

If you have any problem installing the capture driver, please follow these instructions:

  1. Remove capture driver.
  2. Remove all network adapter driver including all modems and network card adapter different from the Ethernet network card you're planning to use as capture device.
  3. Re-install the capture driver.
  4. Verify the driver is working properly.
  5. Re-install all other network driver you previously removed.
