Using Bookreader to Read The Wombat Examiner and 4GL Dispatch After restoring WOMBAT_10_12.DECW$BOOKSHELF and WOMBAT_10_12.DECW$BOOK to disk, the Bookreader may be used to read the Wombat Examiner Volume 10, Number 12. To do this, perform the following steps: 1. Define a symbol to invoke the Bookreader: $ BOOKREADER :== $DECW$BOOKREADER 2. Define the logical name WOMBAT_DIRECTORY so that it points to the directory which holds the two Bookreader files mentioned above. 3. Invoke the Bookreader by entering the command: $ BOOKREADER WOMBAT_DIRECTORY:WOMBAT_EXAMINER.DECW$BOOKSHELF The full directory specification must be used. Bookreader defaults to SYS$LIBRARY for unspecified directories. The Wombat bookshelf may also be accessed through the default Bookreader library by adding the following line to DECW$BOOK:LIBRARY.DECW$BOOKSHELF: SHELF\WOMBAT_DIRECTORY:WOMBAT_EXAMINER.DECW$BOOKSHELF\ where may be something like "Wombat Examiner and 4GL Dispatch", without double quotes. The Wombat shelf will then be accessible when using Bookreader from Fileview, Session Manager, or without specifying a Bookshelf. Once the Bookreader library window is displayed, you will see the entry for the "Wombat Examiner and 4GL Dispatch - Vol. 10, No. 12" book. Using the mouse button MB1, double-click on the entry, and Bookreader will display the document in a separate window. The library window will become the "Table of Contents" window for the book. Use the Table of Contents to select topics to view, or page through the topics one by one. Help is available from the Help menu on the right-hand side of the book's menu bar. A note about "hot spots": these are a word or group of words which, when clicked upon with MB1, will position the book's window to a certain topic, such as a programming example or a table. These "hot spots" are invisible by default, until the mouse pointer crosses them, at which time a rectangle appears around them; however, under the "View" menu, there is an option to make them always visible. Refer to the "Guide to Desktop Applications" section in the VMS "Using DECwindows" manual for more information. In the Wombat Examiner documents, "hot spots" are always surrounded by parantheses, and preceded by the word "see". Since the documents are produced through DECwrite, the "hot spots" are implemented as "cross-references"; when they are called, a separate window is not created. Rather, the topic which the "hot spot" references is brought up in the Book window. You may return to the topic which contained the "hot spot" by using the "Go Back" option button in the window.
